Kerala’s capital, with the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, museums and palaces — the gateway to Kovalam and Varkala.
The destination
Thiruvananthapuram, still widely called Trivandrum, is Kerala’s capital and the southern gateway for many Kerala tours. The Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple (dress code applies, entry for Hindus only), the Napier Museum and zoo, Kuthiramalika Palace and Shanghumugham Beach are the classic sights. Kovalam is about 16 km away and Varkala about 50 km, and Kanyakumari is an easy day trip.
