Board your private houseboat at the Alleppey finishing point around 12 noon with a welcome drink. Cruise across Punnamada Lake and the village canals of Kuttanad, with a traditional Kerala lunch cooked on board. Evening tea and snacks on deck as the boat moors by 5:30 PM at a quiet village bank; dinner is served on board and you spend the night on the backwaters.
Breakfast on the houseboat and check-out at 9 AM, then drive south along the coast to Varkala (about 3 hours). Check into a cliff-top resort, walk the North Cliff promenade and watch the sunset over the Arabian Sea from the red laterite cliffs.
A slow day at Varkala. Swim at Papanasam Beach, visit the 2,000-year-old Janardhana Swamy Temple, and take an optional Ayurvedic massage or surf lesson. In the afternoon, drive to Kappil Beach where the Edava backwaters meet the sea, then spend the evening in the cafes on the cliff.
Breakfast and check-out, then drive to Trivandrum (about 1.5 hours). Time permitting, see the outside of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple before your drop at Trivandrum airport or railway station.
