The destination
Wayanad sits on the Western Ghats in northern Kerala, a green plateau of tea, coffee, pepper and cardamom estates. Highlights include the prehistoric carvings of Edakkal Caves, Banasura Sagar Dam, Chembra Peak with its heart-shaped lake, Soochipara and Meenmutty waterfalls, Pookode Lake and the Muthanga and Tholpetty wildlife sanctuaries. It is best reached from Calicut and suits longer Kerala tours or a cool hill break.
