Gateway to the Ashtamudi backwaters and Munroe Island, at the southern end of the Alleppey–Kollam canal route.
The destination
Kollam (formerly Quilon) is an old port town on Ashtamudi Lake, Kerala’s second-largest lake, whose eight arms give it its name. Canoe rides through the narrow canals of Munroe Island, the Thangassery lighthouse and the long cruise along the canal route to Alleppey are the highlights. It is a quieter backwater base than Alleppey, about 2 hours south by road.
