Athirappilly Falls drops about 24 m across a wide rock face on the Chalakudy River, earning the nickname “the Niagara of India”. The Vazhachal falls are a few kilometres upstream, and the surrounding Sholayar forests are rich in birdlife including hornbills. It is a popular day trip from Cochin, at its fullest during and just after the monsoon.
