Day cruise, overnight stay or night stay: how much time you really spend cruising, what you eat and what each Alleppey houseboat option costs.
Houseboats stop cruising by 5:30 PM, so the hours you spend moving are similar for day and overnight trips. The difference is the night.
Day cruise (11 AM – 5 PM)
Almost the whole slot is moving water, with a Kerala lunch and evening tea. Best if you are short on time or already have a hotel. From about ₹6,499 for a 1-bedroom boat.
Overnight stay (12 PM – 9 AM)
About the same cruising time, plus sunset, dinner, a night moored at a village and a sunrise breakfast. This is the experience most people mean when they say "Kerala houseboat". From about ₹7,999.
Night stay (5:30 PM – 9 AM)
No afternoon cruise, but dinner, a night on the water and a short morning cruise for the lowest price, from about ₹4,999.
Our advice
If you can spare one night, take the overnight. If not, a day cruise still gives you the lake, the canals and a proper Kerala lunch.
